No thanks to ESPN

Tonight (Thursday) I decided to watch yet another installment of the UEFA Champions league cup matches on ESPN. The first one of the week, a 0-0 draw between Barcelona and Benfica, was mis-timed so I only caught the last 40 minutes. No big deal, as it was a highly boring match, not what I had expected for a Barcelona game. This installment, which was obviously a taped match (for reasons that will become evident) between Champions league perennials Internazionale (Inter Milan) and Spanish newcomers Villareal, was sure to be a little more exciting than the first game of the week. Sure enough, Villareal get off to a flying start with a goal in the first minute from Forlon. This match was at Milan, so this is an ever-crucial away goal which could help Villareal in the long run. According to Champions league rules, if two teams' aggregates result in a draw, then advancement in the elimination round will be awarded to the club with the most away goals. A challenging week of fighting off the flu, March Madness busting my bracket, and a happy, happy McSorley's Irish Black Lager full St. Paddys. Since I've been busier than I should be, I will keep the focus on the local free agency madness... PATRIOTS: The Patriots, as per usual, watching laughing as the usual gang of idiots throwing obscene dollars at players (some worth it, most not). The Buccaneers and Redskins led the madness out of the gate. Tampa Bay wasted millions on Guard Carl Nicks (worth every penny), Receiver Vincent Jackson (Umm, so much wasted talent and untapped production in San Diego), and Cornerback Eric Wright (overpaid); Washington made Tampa Bay's spending seem intelligent as they threw millions at Receiver Pierre Garcon (sooooo much cash for sooooo little), Cornerback Cedric Griffin (overpaid), Safety Brandon Merriweather (bwah-hah-hah! Bwah-hah-hah! Sorry, this is too sad to do anything but laugh. That bum must have the greatest agent ever. ...

Sox - Yankees, Round Two: My only complaint is that the fans do not get to see Schilling versus Johnson: the Big Schill up against former teammate, co-MVP, and neighbor the Big Eunich. This is an interesting match-up because we still are unsure where these two teams are so far in the young season: The Yankees can hit the ball, but the bottom of their order is suspect: * Gary Sheffield will be sorely missed in the middle of the line-up while he is out with a sore wrist, as he is easily the Yankees most dangerous hitter in the clutch. * Bernie Williams is hardly rejuvenated nor is Jorge Posada getting any younger. * Robinson Cano is the latest version of Alfonso Soriano, however, but Jason Giambi - is he loaded up on the HGH again (since there is no test for it)??? * Mike Mussina has anchored the staff, but how long can his renaissance last? * The Big Eunich is due for a back flare-up and a DL trip soon. * The rainbow and lollypop run for Shawn Chacon is die to end soon (see: Aaron Small...
