The New England Patriots lost a number of key players from their Super Bowl 49 championship team this offseason and are looking at competition at a number of positions. With the loss of valuable mid-season acquisitions and depth players Jonathan Casillas and Akeem Ayers in free agency, the Patriots need depth on defense. Add in Dont’a Hightower, who is slowed by offseason surgery, and veteran Jerod Mayo coming back from a second straight season-ending injury, and the Patriots have had to rebuild at the linebacker position.
