Well, we did it! We survived the most boring week of NFL games ever! Week eight was a series of blowouts with just the Jets-Bengals “No Defense” game not being a final by at least double digits.
This week’s games will try to give us a few entertaining games (hopefully!). It all kicked off Thursday Night on Amazon with a game that probably looked a lot better before the season started. Lamar Jackson and the Ravens rolled over the sad-sack Miami Dolphins as head coach Mike McDaniel moved one game closer to being the 2026 San Francisco 49ers offensive coordinator when Klay Kubiak will be hired away as a head coach in the offseason.
The early window has two bad defenses with Bears-Bengals expected to be a track meet (hammer the over!). The Vikings-Lions is a great NFC North matchup. Most games are inter-divisional, with Drake Maye and the Patriots hosting the Atlanta Falcons (over/under on 28-3 references?), Green Bay hosting Carolina, the Steelers likely getting run over by the Colts in Pittsburgh, Houston hosting Denver, the Giants hosting Mac Jones and the 49ers and the Titans hosting Justin Herbert and the Chargers.
There are only three games in the 4:05/4:25PM Eastern time block but the only one anyone cares about is the AFC Championship rematch of Josh Allen and Patrick Mahomes with the Bills hosting the Chiefs. Fans out west get stuck with either Saints at Rams (barf) or Jaguars at Raiders (double barf).
Sunday Night Football on NBC features the Commanders hosting the Seahawks. It wraps up Monday night with the reeling Cardinals traveling to Dallas in what should be a prime time shootout.
Each week during the season, I make my picks with my buddy David on his SportsKrunch with DKrom podcast as we’ve done regularly for the past five years (and pre-pandemic as well).
Unfortunately for you regular listeners of the show, I was back from vacation this week after hanging out with the 12s in Seattle. Check out the episode as we recapped week eight, reacted to the biggest news, broke down the big game of the week, and all the predictions and prognostications--it is available here.
Please give a listen each week on your preferred podcast provider. All back episodes are available here at Apple podcasts.
