Cover32: Grade Day: Who performed best in the New England Patriots first preseason game?

The Patriots struggled on offense in the second half as quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo was out of sync with the backup receivers and under pressure with a backups on the offensive line. The defense battled in the second half and there were several players who made a strong case for earning a role on defense. However, most of the players who earned a majority of the snaps during the Thursday night loss will not be depended on in 2015.
The Patriots’ preseason opener revealed several issues on both sides of the ball that will need to be addressed before the start of the season, but there were also a number of positive impressions picked up from the loss. With so many fringe roster players, the grades do tend to skew lower. Here are the grades for the Patriots for each position group:
